Apologies to Richard Dawkins

I read the following quote from Richard Dawkins "The creator of the universe, sublime inventor of mathematics, of relativistic space-time, of quarks and quanta, of life itself, Almighty God, who read our every thought and hears our every prayer, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent God couldn't think of a better way to forgive us than to have himself tortured and executed." It stopped me in my tracks and invoked a "Wow, what an incredible God!" exclamation from me.  My apologies to Richard, who brilliant scientist that he was, did not share my faith in an Almighty God. Richard was scoffing at this God and I was marvelling at this God. It is so easy to become blasé in thinking about God, the creator, but when described in these terms suddenly I am in awe.  The inventor of mathematics, of quarks and quanta, atoms and neutrons, of things we can see and cannot see, of molecular energy and sound waves...I am wonderstruck. If God created all this why do I think he cannot solve my small problems, or the issues of global warming?
But here's the thing and the insult that Richard Dawkins could not get his mind around, this incredible God could only find the solution to humanity's problems by dying on a cruel cross. As Paul wrote the cross is foolishness to the Greeks or the wise and a stumbling block to the Jews.  It doesn't make sense. God, the Almighty, the inventor of mathematics, humbled himself and took on the form of a man to suffer a cruel death on a cross so that he could triumph once and for all over sin, decay, destruction and death. There is apparently no other way, otherwise the inventor of quarks and quanta would have found it. But we who are human don't like this option. It insults us as it did Richard Dawkins.  We are apparently too proud to accept this amazing, incredible, unfathomable God on his terms. We want it our way and there in lies all our problems. We want it "my" way.
So thanks, Richard, for the your words. For me they invoked worship and awe, that this amazing God would go to such extreme lengths to show us his love for humanity.
